Driveway Stone: Choosing The Right Aggregate Blend
2/20/2026
Compare common driveway aggregate options and understand when to use each one.
Start With Base Condition
Before adding new stone, evaluate grade, drainage, and pothole depth. Surface material alone will not fix a failed base.
Common Stone Types For Driveways
3/4 Crushed Bluestone
Best for compaction and load stability. Works well for resurfacing and base correction.
Pea Gravel
Best for decorative edges and low-speed residential sections. Not ideal as a primary compaction layer.
Recommended Layering Pattern
- Correct grade and drainage first.
- Add compacting base aggregate.
- Finish with a stable top layer for traffic.
Delivery Planning
Multi-load orders are usually scheduled one load per day per address. Add access notes for narrow entries or low wires during checkout.
